An ophthalmologist, or eye doctor, is a specialist medical practitioner who has completed firstly a medical degree and then further training in ophthalmology.

Orthoptists have a Science degree and study medical technology and eye science. They are experts at examining children, assessing vision and visual function and carrying out diagnostic procedures.
Optometrists, usually work autonomously, but sometimes also work within ophthalmic clinics. They are skilled in assessment of the status of vision and in the prescription of glasses and fitting of contact lenses.
They are able to diagnosis eye conditions and initiate management in consultation with an ophthalmologist. They can share care collaboratively with ophthalmologists.
There are a broad range of conditions of the eye affecting vision, comfort, appearance and wellbeing. As well as many important eye conditions which can affect general health and many general health conditions which can affect the eye.
An ophthalmologist has the background and experience to make these connections and understand you, the patient, as a whole.

Any patient may book to be seen at our clinic. A referral from either an optometrist or a general practitioner is required in order to receive a rebate from Medicare.
